The Significance of a Gift

As we celebrate the gift of Jesus’ birth this month, we also thank God for your financial gifts to Mercy Ministries. Your support has made a way for hurting young women to know Christ’s love through their experience at Mercy.

Our current and former residents consistently tell us just how thankful they are for you! Caitlin recently sent us an update of how far she has come since graduating from Mercy in 2008. Caitlin came into the program with an unplanned pregnancy and had suffered abandonment, verbal abuse and depression. At Mercy, she learned to walk in the wisdom and wholeness of Christ, and her life was forever changed.

“I have been working on my degree in sports fitness and nutrition and have gotten married to a wonderful Godly man who is a Godsend to my daughter and I both! I have used everything I was taught to walk in at Mercy, especially the daily discipline of speaking truth and scripture over myself and my family. I am now leading a class at church for women who struggle with addictions to food, helping them deal with the roots of why we run to any addiction.

I cannot thank y'all enough for all the time and wisdom you instilled in me while at Mercy. I not only learned to walk in wholeness of mind, body and spirit, but also in self-discipline, even when trying times come! I tell everyone that Mercy was the game changer for me after being in and out of rehabs and psych wards. Generations in my family line will never be the same thanks to the healing and knowledge I received at Mercy! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love you guys!”
--Caitlin, 2008 Mercy graduate

Caitlin speaks for thousands of Mercy graduates who clearly recognize and deeply appreciate the significance of your financial support. Thank you for providing a way for young women like Caitlin to walk in freedom!

Multiplying Freedom and Hope

Words cannot express just how grateful we are for your commitment to and support of Mercy Ministries! Your giving makes a tremendous impact, not just in the life of a Mercy girl, but in every life she goes on to touch.

I love how passionate our graduates are about sharing with others the freedom they’ve found in Christ! Amy, a 2014 graduate, struggled with self-harm and a severe eating disorder. At Mercy, she committed her life to Jesus, and He began to redeem and restore her body and spirit. In her post-graduation plans, she expressed her desire to travel around the world to share God’s love with others. A few months later, she had the opportunity to serve needy families in Baja, Mexico. I want to share with you a portion of the update we received from Amy after her trip.

“This experience was life changing! I went with a motive to just give whatever I could, but little did I know that I would get back much more than I could have imagined. About a year ago, I was in a place of hopelessness and death, and being able to give hope and life and be a light to someone else has blessed me so much. My God is so great! I am so excited to have been able to give back and pour into others the life I have been given. My life is a miracle, and it’s such a blessing to be part of a miracle in someone else’s life. Thanks again for helping me make this possible.”
 --Amy, 2014 Mercy graduate

From a point of darkness and hopelessness, Amy’s life now multiplies the freedom and hope she received at Mercy Ministries. Because of your financial partnership, you are helping send stories of transformation into a hurting world. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you are making possible!

Girls Who Were Once Broken Can Become World Changers

I hope you know that your support literally allows women to dream again and fully experience the life they were created for. Just a few months ago, the story of one of our Mercy graduates was a topic of inspiration on the U.S. Senate floor, and I want to share it with you.

While at Mercy, Amnoni faced and overcame her childhood struggles and allowed God to turn them into her passion: advocating for kids who don’t have a voice. Amnoni recently completed an internship with the Congressional Coalition on Adoption Institute. She worked directly on solution-based policies that addressed the very foster care system that created such instability in her own life.

“I became a ward of the state of Massachusetts the day I was born. I never knew stability or unconditional love growing up, moving around from one foster home to another. Eventually, I aged out of the foster care system and was shoved into independence with no family, no support, and no place to call home. I was left feeling shattered and confused.

At Mercy, I was able to gain a better understanding of myself and learn about God’s unconditional love for me. I would have never imagined that one day I would have the opportunity to present a policy report to the White House staff and Congress making critical recommendations on standardized, trauma-informed care practices and training for foster and adoptive parents. I want to thank Mercy Ministries for never giving up on me but providing hope for my life. I am excited to see what God will continue to do!”
--Amnoni, 2009 Mercy graduate

Because of supporters like you, girls who were once broken and hopeless go on to become world changers! Not only does your giving impact the residents we serve today, but also the people our Mercy graduates influence tomorrow. Thank you!

A Ripple Effect That Can Impact the World

I can’t fully express how much your financial gifts to this ministry continue to impact lives month after month, year after year. Every time I hear one of our graduates talk about a dream in her life coming to pass, I think about supporters like you.

Recently, I received an update from a 2012 Mercy graduate named Lavonna, and I’d like to share a portion of it with you. Before Lavonna came to Mercy, she put on a “good student” facade to conceal the sexual abuse she endured as a child and the eating disorder and self-harm issues that spiraled from it. She is now walking in freedom and God is using her education as a platform to share hope with others.

Since graduating from Mercy, a lot has happened in my life, and every day I just thank God for all that Mercy did, for Nancy, and the supporters.

Before Mercy, I was in grad school pursuing my doctorate in psychology, mostly going through the motions. Today, I’m not only at the end of my degree and will graduate magna cum laude, but I’m living life abundantly and joyfully because of the transformation I encountered! I have had the opportunity several times a month to share my testimony and about Mercy. I am an adjunct professor now and over the last several semesters, I have incorporated the Mercy promo videos into each class so more people will be aware of Mercy and the help that is out there.

In May, I found another unique avenue of sharing my story, which was by auditioning to speak at TedxDayton. God has been so good and so faithful! And even though life after Mercy hasn’t always been smooth sailing, I have the tools needed to keep fighting! Thanks for all you do!
--Lavonna, 2012 Mercy graduate

Your giving literally restores the futures of girls who at one point had given up on themselves. One changed life like Lavonna’s produces a ripple effect that can impact the world everywhere she goes. Thank you so much for partnering with us in changing lives!

The Miracle We See Time and Time Again

We believe that every girl’s life is full of incredible potential, and your support makes it possible for girls at Mercy to realize their God-given destinies—just like Tiffany did. When Tiffany’s mom saw the transformation in her daughter’s life at her Mercy graduation, she wanted to thank those who helped Tiffany realize her identity in Christ. Here’s what she said, through tears, at the Mercy graduation ceremony:

“I have often wondered, ‘How do you thank the people that saved your daughter’s life?’ People that know Tiffany know she tends to go against the grain. You say yes, she says no. You say up, she says down. So I don’t think she believed at first that she needed to be saved or rescued, yet each of the staff at Mercy Ministries saw past that, and I am forever grateful that they did. As Tiffany’s mom, I am so thankful for all the times that the staff stayed up with her or sat with her, for all the times they talked with her or listened to her, for all the times they cried with her or laughed with her, for the times they prayed for her or with her, for the times they fought for her soul - and won.

I want to thank Mercy Ministries for loving my daughter, even when she didn’t and couldn’t love herself, because she didn’t see her worth. What the enemy meant for evil—how he thought he had one of God’s creations in his clutches—Mercy saw as the new creation she would become. This was the beginning of a new journey. The staff has seen this miracle time and time again. The miracle of redemption, of restoration, of deliverance, of freedom. All because of the love of Jesus Christ that permeates through this family at Mercy Ministries. I pray that as her mom, I will be able to continue in that unconditional love that Mercy has shown my daughter.”
-Minita, mom of 2014 Mercy graduate Tiffany

What others say is impossible, you help make possible through your support. Thank you for paving the way for these girls to walk into the future with hearts full of hope and joy. You are making a difference for eternity!

Sincerely in Christ,
Nancy Alcorn

Madison Shares Her Story

Your generosity makes freedom a reality for the girls who come through our program, and the best way I know to thank you is to pass on these words from one of our recent graduates Madison.

“I first sold my body for drugs when I was 17 years old, which became an easy way to get whatever I wanted—money, drugs or attention. I ended up working at a fast food restaurant during the day and a strip club at night. I thought I was good at keeping the outside together, but I was drowning on the inside. My double life came to a screeching halt when my parents found out about everything. One of my mom’s coworkers had a daughter who had gone through the Mercy Ministries program, and they suggested I apply.

The biggest turning point for me at Mercy was the night I accepted Christ and was saved. From that moment on, my life completely changed. While at Mercy, God has transformed me in every way possible. I have developed the most intimate and beautiful relationship with Him. I have discovered who I am and how to love myself the way God loves me. I have learned how to love and be loved. I was also able to get my high school diploma while at Mercy, which is something I thought I could never do!

There is no way I would have been able to get the help I needed for free for a full six months without everyone who gives to Mercy. I had been in and out of treatment since I was 15, and no other place was able to change my life the way this program has. Mercy donors made it possible for me to receive the help I needed and to develop the kind of relationship with the Lord that is absolutely necessary to living a successful life!“
– Madison, 2014 Mercy Graduate

For over 31 years, donors like you have made our program available free of charge to thousands of girls just like Madison! We are beyond grateful for your partnership.

Sincerely in Christ,

A Mother Praises God for Mercy Ministries

I can’t think of a better way to express my gratitude than to share these words straight from the heart of Terri, mom of a Mercy resident who is graduating this month. I met Terri recently and knew you would be encouraged by her story. It just goes to show how your financial partnership with Mercy transforms entire families!

“My daughter Megan used methods of self-destruction for five years, including an eating disorder, drugs, alcohol and terribly unhealthy relationships. That changed the playing field for our family—everyone went into a zone defense out of necessity. Every door was locked, every heart was guarded and everyday life was a series of taking care of the next fire ignited by Megan’s choices. But the GOOD NEWS is God was there! After hearing Nancy Alcorn speak at a church service, I felt the Lord telling me Megan would be at Mercy Ministries one day. This month she will graduate from the Mercy home in St. Louis, free from her issues! She is claiming a future she never believed she deserved. In Meg’s words, coming to Mercy Ministries was a “game changer.” What about the rest of our family, my husband and three other daughters? Because of Megan’s healing, her sisters are pursuing the Lord in full force, far beyond what I ever imagined! Also, our family is now burdened for hurting people. We understand heartache and have a huge desire to love, encourage and uplift the broken. The zone defense we once used is now an offensive healing strategy instead!

We are so excited to have our bubbly Megan back and overjoyed to be one as a family again! We are stronger, wiser, and more in love with the Lord than ever! PRAISE GOD FOR MERCY MINISTRIES!! Because of your obedience and the support of so many people whom I can never begin to thank properly, the Lord has won a mighty victory!!”
—Terri, mom of current resident Megan

Thank you for being the hands and feet to make a way for Megan and so many other girls to find freedom. You not only transform these girls’ lives with your giving, but you impact whole families and communities to care about broken people. I am beyond grateful for you!!

Sincerely in Christ,
Nancy Alcorn

Mercy Ministries' Lasting Impact

Every time I think about supporters like you, I can’t help but think of all the lives you are impacting when you give. When a girl’s life is transformed at Mercy, she goes on to transform the lives of so many others.

Jon, husband of 2008 Mercy graduate Hannah, was blown away by the transformation his wife experienced at Mercy. Although they were only dating when Hannah was in the program, Jon saw a radical healing take place in her life and proposed the very day she came home from Mercy! They've been married over five years now and remain passionate about helping other women receive the same kind of help Hannah received. Jon and Hannah are using their finances and their God-given gifts to bring the mission of Mercy and the healing message of Christ to the world! Here's what Jon had to say about the lasting impact of Mercy:

"One of the reasons I support Mercy is my wife, Hannah. She went through some really intense things growing up, and when we were dating several years ago, a lot of pain from her past started coming up. She went to Mercy Ministries, and I saw first hand the transformation that occurred. It was night and day.

It's been several years since then, and the change is lasting. Not just that, but it's exponential. Because of Hannah's story, two other girls have gone through the Mercy program and have also gone on to do extraordinary things. When you transform a life through Mercy Ministries, that life goes back into the world and transforms other people's lives." - Jon, husband of 2008 Mercy graduate Hannah

Hannah's life was changed, and now she and her husband are paying it forward to make sure other girls are able to experience the same kind of healing. I hope their story reminds you that the girls you help with your giving today become life-long ambassadors of God's transforming power, impacting hurting people all over the world. I just can't thank you enough!!

The Big Payback

Mercy Ministries is participating in The Big Payback, a one-day online giving event, hosted by the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.  We’re asking people to consider giving whatever amount represents a day’s worth of wages to make a difference in the lives of hurting girls and give them a future. Any amount, even an hour’s worth of wages, can make a significant impact when combined with the giving of other people just like you.  When you give to Mercy Ministries, you are making a way for the girls we serve to embrace hope for a future they may never have thought was possible before!
Remember, this giving event only lasts for 24-hours, from 6am to 6am starting Tuesday, May 6th. Mark your calendars and set your reminders, because your giving during The Big Payback will help Mercy Ministries qualify for special prizes and bonuses, which maximizes the donations of everyone.
Get set to GIVE HER A FUTURE! CLICK HERE TO GIVE!
Will you please share this today?
Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.”  Luke 6:38 (NKJV)

Noelle's Story

As the weather starts to warm up and spring approaches, I can’t help but think of new life, miracles, and the abundant hope we have through Jesus. Nothing compares to the hope that you experience when you see God’s miraculous hand at work. When 2008 Mercy graduate Noelle emailed us recently to tell us the incredible news about her miracle baby, Wyatt, I just had to share her story with you.  Noelle and her husband battled infertility for eight long years, but last year, God’s promise of a child was finally and miraculously fulfilled.

“I came to Mercy Ministries to find hope and healing from an eating disorder I had battled since I was a little girl. While at Mercy, I learned invaluable tools that would help me through a very long and hard journey of infertility that my husband and I began after I graduated from the program and returned home. Doctors gave us a 5% chance of ever having a baby, and after two unsuccessful rounds of fertility treatment, it was very hard not to give up hope. It was then that I relied on God's Word to keep me strong and remain hopeful! I spoke His truth over my mind and body every time fear would rise!

Along this journey my husband and I met many people who prayed for us to conceive and each time I was encouraged and my faith seemed to grow! Imagine how elated we were when we discovered our dream had finally come true—I was pregnant! God had answered our prayers!! Nine months later my little bundle of joy entered the world…our son Wyatt truly is our miracle baby!” – Noelle, 2008 Mercy Graduate

Little Wyatt is alive today because of the healing Noelle experienced at Mercy, and the strengthening of her faith to believe God for miracles. He is faithful, and He works through donors like you to transform these girls’ hearts and lives forever. Noelle’s life has been changed by the power of God, and she and her husband will no doubt pass that faith for the miraculous on to their son. Look what the Lord has done!

Thank you again for partnering with us to see miracles happen in these girls’ lives.

Sincerely in Christ,

Another Amazing Transformation!

Watching the girls in our program have their lives transformed by the love of Christ is truly amazing, and your support makes it possible. We can’t do it without you!

I think of girls like Emma, who endured physical, emotional, and sexual abuse at the hands of her peers as a teenager. She would drink until she couldn’t feel the pain, and when that stopped working, she turned to self-harm and even tried to take her own life many times. She had given up on herself, but God never gave up on her! At Mercy, Emma rededicated her life to Christ and was changed from the inside out. She graduated last year full of hope, confidence, and joy. She is now at college pursuing a degree in youth ministry!

“At Mercy, God allowed me to start hoping and dreaming again. Before Mercy, I really had no true hope. But now I have dreams that are way bigger than me! I also have a relationship with God that is fresh and exciting.
I want to say thank you to all the Mercy supporters from the bottom of my heart for giving me my life back. It really means a lot to know that people obeyed God, and I get to be on the receiving end of it. I hope to one day do the same and touch others’ lives as I follow what God has planned for me.”
-- Emma, 2013 Mercy Graduate

Emma is walking in the freedom and abundant life she never knew was possible before, and she’s excited about sharing that freedom with others. Your willingness to give to Mercy Ministries provides a pathway of freedom not only for girls in our program like Emma, but for all who they go on to impact. Thank you for your support and for being part of every changed life!

Sincerely in Christ,
Nancy Alcorn
