Trafficking in America and What Mercy is Doing About It!

Contrary to what many people believe, sex trafficking is not just a crime taking place overseas. Each year, an estimated 300,000 women and children are victims of sex trafficking across the U.S. – right in our own backyards. In a recent report released by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI), 85 percent of Tennessee counties reported they have investigated at least one human sex trafficking case over the last 24 months. Of the counties that reported, 16 investigated more than 50 cases and eight reported over 100 cases.

Mercy Ministries has been helping victims of sex trafficking for years, and we continue to receive more and more calls for help. Studies show that rescue falls short without a comprehensive residential program where victims can be cared for in a safe environment. This puts Mercy Ministries in the unique position of being one of the few programs of its kind.

Mercy Ministries' End Sex Trafficking initiative is excited to be a part of the “Trafficking In America Conference” at the Holiday Inn Opryland in Nashville, TN, June 10-12, 2011. The purpose of the conference is to raise awareness and mobilize efforts to combat the issue. Mercy Ministries Executive Director of Communications, Eve Annunziato, will be presenting about the work being done at Mercy Ministries and sharing stories of Mercy graduates who were enslaved but now have true restoration and freedom in Christ. Eve will also be encouraging people to get involved in helping Mercy end sex trafficking one victim at a time.

By supporting Mercy, you provide a safe place to live, Biblical counseling, life-skills training and transitional care for victims of sex trafficking. You also help us to give them a voice, so America will know the truth about this horrific crime. While awareness is important, it is the love of Christ that will truly transform the lives of these victims.
