Run for Mercy Team Raises Support at Country Music Marathon!

It has been a full season of “April showers,” but the weather couldn’t have been more perfect for this year’s Country Music Marathon and Half Marathon in Nashville! A total of 65 runners and walkers for Team Mercy joined more than 30,000 people in the half and full marathons starting at Centennial Park, winding through Music City and crossing the finish line at LP Field.

The night before the race, Team Mercy gathered for a pre-race dinner, prepared by some of the Nashville residents, so they could fellowship together and get psyched for the big race. Here’s what some of the residents had to say about the great time they had hanging out with Team Mercy:

It was a blessing to be able to meet and serve the people who are running to support us. I ate dinner with two inspiring graduates. I was so encouraged that they came to support Mercy after going through the program. – Kristin

I was so blessed and pleased to be able to make the pre-race meal. The two grads that were running the half marathon encouraged me that I can get healthy and get back to running and playing soccer. They motivated me to press on and graduate. I loved it; it was heart changing. – Abbey

Helping out with the dinner, giving tours and seeing how anxious everyone was to learn more about Mercy was just really good. I loved seeing how many cool people are supporting us! – Ashley

The pre-run dinner was so cool. I really liked hearing about why everyone was running for Mercy. It made me proud to be a Mercy girl.” – Julianne

Trish Squitierri
Another exciting marathon story brewing in the weeks leading up to the race was about Mercy’s own counselor, Trish Squitierri, as she trained to run her first marathon for Mercy. You can see Trish’s story here. Trish prayed for different aspects of the ministry during each of the 26.2 miles of the race. She finished strong and received lots of congratulatory hugs from our grateful Mercy residents.  Here's what Trish had to say about running for Mercy:

If I hadn’t been running for Mercy, I would not have been able to do this. It was by far one of the coolest experiences I’ve had. Praying during the 4.5 hours of running was, for lack of a better word, incredible. God laid specific people and specific scriptures on my heart as I ran. Throughout the race I received texts with prayers and encouragement from so many people! It meant the world to me! I was able to finish in 4 hours and 27 minutes, which honestly seems impossible considering I had not trained for three weeks leading up to the race due to surgery. It really was the Lord that carried me through. One of my favorite moments was giving it my last bit of energy, coming down to the finish line, and hearing the cheers of the Mercy residents. I couldn’t have been more proud to run on behalf of these beautiful girls! It was definitely a moment I will never forget!

A great big thanks to another one of our biggest running groups – Team Ramsey! This amazing team was made up of more than 50 employees of popular radio show host and New York Times Best Selling author, Dave Ramsey. Team Ramsey also held a pre-race dinner and raised money for Mercy Ministries as they crossed the finish line!

Thanks to all who ran with Team Mercy in the Country Music Marathon and those who supported them financially. Many people are committing their resources and time to support the work of Mercy Ministries as runners, sponsors, and volunteers at our Run for Mercy events across the U.S. Stay tuned for future opportunities to lace up your sneakers and support Mercy as an individual runner, team member or virtual runner.
