Lunch with Friends at the California Home

Our residents at the California home cooked up a delicious meal yesterday for some very special guests. The dining room was packed as we kicked off another successful Friends of Mercy Luncheon. Many of our local Community Board Members were there to share their passion for Mercy Ministries, but it was a great encouragement to see lots of new faces. More than 50 people came out to hear about the life-changing work being done at Mercy!

Cheryl Bangs, Program Director at the California home, shared the history of Mercy Ministries and how Founder and President, Nancy Alcorn, answered God’s call to start a program for hurting young women dealing with life-controlling issues. Mercy graduate, Sydnie, shared how she was sexually abused by a family member and turned to alcohol to numb her pain, but while at Mercy, she was transformed by God’s unconditional love and is now living in complete freedom.

2009 Graduate, Sydnie, shares her story

Current resident, Candace, was a star college basketball player when she was abused by some members of the men’s team at her school. She started abusing drugs and alcohol and got involved with an abusive drug dealer. God is now doing an amazing work in this strong and confident young woman.

Both girls had powerful testimonies of hope and healing and expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the support of the Sacramento community.  Following the program, residents and volunteers gave tours of the beautiful California home and described the daily activities of the Mercy program. Here are some more photos of yesterday’s event:
