UK Staff Visits Mercy Ministries Headquarters in Nashville

UK Staff Members Michelle Pyman (left) and Cath Miller (right)
Staff and residents at the Nashville home were recently blessed to have some special visitors from the United Kingdom Mercy Ministries home, Michelle Pyman, Development Director, and Cath Miller, Senior Facilitator/Director of Counselors. Our international homes share our name, brand, and counseling model, however, Mercy Ministries UK is an independently run, Christian based charity, governed by a UK board with an operating model tailored in the UK for the UK. This independent board oversees the integrity of the ministry's operation in the UK. Michelle and Cath came to Nashville to meet with the Counseling and Development Departments to share ideas, plans, and their excitement about the expansion of the UK home. Their current home has 10 beds, but will be able to accommodate 22 hurting young women by the end of the year!

Cath Miller first heard about Mercy in 1999 from her pastor, Paul Scanlon, at Abundant Life Church in Bradford, England. Pastor Paul met Nancy Alcorn, Founder and President of Mercy Ministries, at a conference and in October of that year Nancy went to Abundant Life Church to share the vision of Mercy. After hearing Nancy speak, Cath visited the Nashville home in 2000.

Abundant Life Church was committed to one day having a Mercy home established in the UK, so the vision was cast, the seed was sown, and finally in 2006, the home opened! Cath was a major supporter and volunteer at the UK home and in 2009, God called her to join the staff as Senior Facilitator and Director of Counselors. Here is what Cath had to say about coming back to the Nashville home, 10 years after her first visit:

I am overwhelmed by what God is doing in and through Mercy. The heart of Mercy is very much now what it was then. Nothing has been watered down, nothing has been compromised, nothing has been altered as far as the Word of God is concerned… it has only grown stronger. What has changed is that Mercy has enlarged its territory. More homes have been opened, and more young women are having their hope restored and the lives transformed! I have the best job in the world! I am truly grateful for the visit and will take everything I’ve learned back to the UK home.

Michelle Pyman has a PhD in Psychosocial Science and just three short years ago was working in London doing corporate leadership training. She was attending a training course and was at a point in her life where she was completely fed up with God. She met a young man whose wife is the first graduate of the Nashville home to come from the UK. He shared Christ with her and introduced her to his wife and by the end of the week, she had become a believer! Echoes of Mercy by Nancy Alcorn was the first book Michelle read after becoming a believer and three weeks later she toured the Mercy Ministries home. Michelle had such a strong calling on her life and left her high paying London job to go to Bible school. She moved to Bradford and went through the Leadership Academy training at Abundant Life Church and graduated in June 2009. In November of 2009, Michelle spoke to the Executive Director of Mercy Ministries UK and came on staff as the Development Director!

We were so encouraged to hear about the growing passion for Mercy Ministries in the UK. Special thanks to Cath and Michelle for making the trip to Nashville and sharing your stories and vision with us! We look forward to the completion of the renovations on the UK home!
