St. Louis Artist Bert VanderMark Visits Mercy Ministries!

Last Thursday, the residents and staff of the Nashville home were blessed to have Bert VanderMark conduct his art class called “Visual Parables.” Bert founded Visual Parables about five years ago as a way to equip people to communicate “visual” praise and worship to God through art. He first felt the calling to bring his relationship with Christ and his work as an artist together when he heard about Mercy Ministries and has generously donated his expertise and resources to the residents and staff ever since.

The inspiration for Visual Parables comes from the example of Jesus. Jesus used parables to teach the truths of God’s Word and the paintings are meant to tell the story of each girl’s healing as her heart becomes sensitive to those truths.

Each session begins with Bert teaching from the Bible, followed by worship and prayer. Last week, Bert taught about how big God is. He challenged the young women of Mercy to “grow up” through getting tough, getting busy and getting real. He shared the importance of aligning our “self-talk” with God’s Word. He then gave the residents some instructions on how to use the supplies and encouraged them to think back to a point of healing and communicate that truth by painting it.
Here is some great video of the session with Bert and the girls as they describe their experience:

Mercy Ministries would like to thank Bert VanderMark for consistently pouring his time and energy into our residents and teaching them how to express themselves through their creativity.
